Frequently Asked Questions

Howdywire is not associating with my webcam...

If you've selected "OK" and are still having problems, make sure you do have a webcam and that it is properly installed. Then send us a message at launchteam@Howdywire.com with your 1) Browser type, and 2) OS version and we'll get you set up.

Why can't I send my message after I record it?

You must have a valid email destination address for the recipient and one for yourself as the sender.

I know that video files are very large – will my recipient's email be able to receive and store it?

When you send a video message using Howdywire, the actual message is stored on our secure servers. Your recipient simply receives and then clicks on a link so that they can watch the video from whichever computer system they use. This makes it much easier to use and watch video messages.

How long are the messages kept?

Video messages by users who are not registered are good for 2 weeks. After you register you can save your messages indefinitely.

What kind of privacy protections do you provide users?

We offer the state of the art in privacy security. Your video email is just as safe if not safer, than any online email systems you use.

Can I use Howdywire without a video camera?

You can watch messages that are sent to you, but to record and send a video message you must have a video camera installed in your computer system.

Where do I get a camera and how do I install it?

You can get webcams at many places. Try Amazon online or visit a Radio Shack or Best Buy store in your city. Most external cameras will plug into your computer's USB port and are very easy to set up.
